Emergency Information

Severe weather, power outages, or security concerns can create conditions that require school closures, schedule delays or limited transportation service. Tahoma School District encourages families to be prepared by having emergency supplies and an emergency plan in place. We also recommend that you ensure your emergency contact information is current in the Skyward Family Access system. Contact your school’s registrar to update information.

The district will do all it can to communicate vital information to parents and students during emergencies. The district will notify families of any schedule changes; please assume that schools are operating on regular schedules unless there is an announcement. The following information will help you, so please be sure to keep it handy when you consult TV, radio or website notifications:

  • School delays or closures and transportation changes will be announced on local radio and television, on the Tahoma website, on Flashalert.net, on the free Tahoma app, and on the Tahoma Facebook page (@TSD409). The automated phone calling system also will be used to notify families about school or transportation schedule changes. Remember: During power outages your cordless phone will not work. Please have a hard-wire phone or a cell phone as a backup (include the cell phone number in the emergency contact list on Skyward).
  • Announcements apply to that day only. When limited transportation routes are in effect, emergency bus stops will be used in both morning and afternoon, unless otherwise announced by the district.
  • In certain situations it may not be possible to safely operate buses on certain rural routes. In those cases, buses may operate on other routes in the district and schools could be open.
  • District policy requires bus drivers to have alternate emergency contact people for your student. Please make sure you have completed the emergency release forms given to your student earlier this year. Please return the form to the bus driver.
  • Your student’s limited transportation bus-stop location (snow routes) information was emailed to you by the Transportation office in the first week of December 2021. You can either check your emails from [email protected], or read the instructions below to find your student's snow route.

Standard announcements
